Container grown shrubs can be planted throughout most of the year. The choice is huge and Lavatera is a particular favourite.

When summer is here, the days are long, and contrary to some people's beliefs it is still a good time for planting container grown shrubs. And there are none better than Lavatera Olbia Rosea. It produces masses of flowers from July to September, or when finally cut down by the first severe frost. This plant was introduced into Britain from its native western Mediterranean homeland and is commonly known as the tree mallow.

Common Plants That Can Harm Pets

Most of the plants growing in UK gardens and around the house aren’t harmful to your pets, however some plants are and you need to be aware of them. Enthusiastic gardeners who are also pet owners may be surprised to learn that many of the plants they grow are toxic to cats and dogs.

The findings, by MORE TH>N the insurance company, show that 31% of gardeners have no idea if they are growing plants that are harmful to pets.
